Round 2 – Penguin Vs East Devonport

After a bye in Round 1, footy is finally here and we find ourselves on the road to take on what we expect to be a much improved and well recruited East Devonport Swans. We expect this to be a tough ask straight up for our boys.
Returning son & Senior Coach Chris McDonald has put his team through a solid pre-season. The guys have been working hard both on and off the ground and in the newly assembled gym getting prepared for what Chris and his panel of coaches are hoping to be a successful season both on and off the field for the Two Blues in 2019. Chris and his team have recruited well over the off season with some great key position signings to bolster playing stock while also keeping our core group from season 2018.
With the departure of our Premiership Winning Reserves Coach ( Nick Rolls) one of our favourite son’s and major stake holder of CUB, Brock Dicker returns to lead the troops through the 2019 season with the assistance of Justin Mcdonald as assistant coach. With some good depth there is no doubt there will be some pressure on the Senior group to perform each week and is a healthy position for our club.
Senior Assistant Coach of 2018 Ray Huxtable guides our young up and coming Under 18’s with the assistance of current senior player Brad Kelly through the 2019 season. Ray has been working hard and recruiting hard to get his team ready for what should be an exciting year. We look forward to following the future of our club get reward for effort this year.
24/7 Gym Membership are available please contact one of our committee members for details.
The PFC would like to thank all Sponsors, Supporters & Volunteers that have helped to get our guys onto the field in 2019 – We look forward to you continued support throughout what we hope will be an exciting year for our footy club.
“Up the Mighty Two Blues “

Round 3 – Penguin Vs Ulverstone

The PFC would like to welcome all sponsors, members, life members and supporters to Pirtkek Park for our first home game of the 2019 season against the Ulverstone Football Club.
Last week seen us leave East Devonport with some mixed results but also some great signs which should prove to be exciting going deep into the 2019 season.
Our under 18’s had a promising start but with the final siren sounding fell just short of their first win. Some of the standouts early where Blair Gregson, Jake Degroot , Jesse Dennis & Harry Dick with Jesse Dennis & Jake DeGroot also hitting the scoreboard with three and two goals. This week will be another tough assignment against Ulverstone and we are backing our boys all the way to get the job done.
Our Reserves team started slowish against East Devonport with their first hit out for the year but soon found their mojo to run out convincing winners. Jay Van Essen led from the front and was supported well by Ben Hext who wound back the clock and no doubt would have caught the eye of Senior Coach, Chris McDonald. This week we meet arch rivals the Ulverstone Robins in the traditional Anzac Day clash which should be a great game. The inclusion of playing coach Brock Dicker will bolster our midfield and we look forward to seeing Brock back in the Two Blues jumper once again.
Chris and his boys had a tough first up outing against East Devonport with the boys going down by 33 points at sound of the final siren. Our boys battled hard all day and with no bench for most of the last half found it difficult to keep up with a hungry Swans outfit. Bailey Carter stared early with a run of 80 metres along the wing and a superb finish. Another one of our young guns Lachlan Blakemore was also amongst our best players and looked right at home playing senior footy and no doubt will only grow in confidence with more games under his belt. Exciting things ahead for our group with these young men settling into Senior football.
This week we see one of our leaders and 2018 B&F runner-up Toby Skene play his 100th senior game for the PFC – Toby has been a dedicated , loyal and consistent player for the Two Blues for many years now and we hope that the boys can get the job done to help celebrate this milestone game. We wish Toby and all of our teams the best of luck today – UP THE MIGHTY TWO BLUES!

Round 4 – Penguin Vs Burnie

Today we would like to welcome the Burnie Dockers to Pirtek Park – no doubt there will be some great games of football on display today.
A summary of Round 3,
Our traditional Anzac Day clash versus arch rivals Ulverstone seen some great numbers through the gate which created a great atmosphere for all players and supporters. Although the day did not go according to plan with our Lady Blues the only team managing to take the chocolates across all four grades.
Our U18’s put in another great hard fought effort with Ulverstone dominating play most of the day and taking the points with a superior and well drilled performance. Once again a great team effort and we will no doubt see improvement again this week – stick together boys and a win is not too far away, hopefully today! Stand out performances from Jesse Shepheard, Liam Flanagan, Luke Guard & Jordan Gale and we will be hoping to see these boys on fire again today.
The reserves had a very similar performance sticking with Ulverstone most of the day but failed to take chances in front of goal and ultimately paid the price come the final siren. Some great signs and with some key inclusions back into the side this week will be looking to put in another great performance this week against the Dockers.
Chris and his boys got off to a great start against last year’s Grand Finalists but just could not stick with a slick Ulverstone all game, to the teams credit they battled hard all day, never gave up and the commitment shown can’ t be questioned. To rub salt into the wounds the day was soured by a long term injury to key back man Brad Kelly and on-baller David Scarffe who will both miss a significant amount of footy. With great depth we are positive there are guys currently playing in the reserves that can fill the void left by these two exclusions.
Our Lady Blues where too good for the Robins in their first hit-out for the season. We are excited to see what these ladies can do this year. A great start to the 2019 season.

The PFC would like to thank you for attending today’s game and hope you enjoy the footy on display.
Thank you to all Sponsors, Volunteers and Supporters that keep this great club alive.

Round 5 – Penguin Vs Latrobe

This week we see the two blues back on the road heading to the Latrobe Football ground with all sides showing some great signs, improvement and now looking for the reward for effort through some good wins…. We hope today they get that reward.
Our under 18’s last week where unlucky and fought hard all day but fell short once again but are not too far away from that illusive first win of the 2019 season. Can today be that day that Ray, Jake and their boys breakthrough for their first win of 2019. Get behind the future of our club and continue supporting them throughout the season.
Our undermanned reserves were up against it from the word go but fought hard all day and through some of our experienced players were able to sneak over the line and get a win. The team was led by Damon Overton, Ben Hext & Josh Kaine who all stood up on the day when our depth was tested. The presence of Cam “Dogs” Windram and Brant “Munga” Maloney where valuable contributors and where clearly the difference on the day. Today we get some handy additions back into the side which should provide and entertaining game for all spectators.
Chris and his troops had a hard fought loss against the reigning premiers Burnie. To have 20 scoring shots against the reigning premiers is a good sign and we can see great improvements which is exciting for our club. Some clear standouts where Daniel Baldock’s intercepting marks taken across half back. Will Dau back in for his first senior game of 2019 was also a clear standout and the job done on clearly the best forward in the completion was outstanding. Will Huxtable and Jay Van Essen where both instrumental and clean under pressure also in some great signs.
Today we match up against arch rivals Latrobe and with some key inclusion back into the side we are expecting a great game.
Keep your eye out on our upcoming events which are listed in our Ambassador notes and also on our Facebook page and website.

Once again we thank all Sponsors, Supporters and Volunteers for your contributions which are instrumental in keeping our great club alive.
