Event Details

We are super excited to announce that we have ABC media personality & former Penguin lad Alister Nicholson, along with AFL legend, Premiership player and 3x Premiership Coach, now media personality Mick Malthouse appearing at The Penguin Football Club for a luncheon Q&A on, Sunday July 28.
Mick would have one of the biggest resumes in the AFL/VFL, with his career beginning in 1972 as a player at St. Kilda, then Richmond, with a premiership as a Tiger in 1984.
He then went into coaching in 1984 at Footscray, followed by 9 years, along with two premierships at West Coast, 11 years in the top job at Collingwood, with of course another premiership and numerous Grand Final appearances including the 2010 replay, then a few years at Carlton before parting ways with the Blues in 2015.
Mick also holds the record for coaching the most VFL/AFL games.
Malthouse is now in the commentary box for ABC grandstand.
Former Penguin boy Alister Nicholson will be returning to his favourite home club alongside Malthouse!
Alister grew up in Penguin before he was one of ABC Grandstand’s main AFL commentators in Melbourne.
He is a highly talented and versatile broadcaster, one of a rare breed who can also call rugby league to a high standard.
From a young age he religiously listened to the ABC’s coverage of the VFL and Test cricket, dreaming of one day sitting in the commentary box himself.
He fulfilled his childhood ambition when he joined the Grandstand team in Brisbane in 2011 and made the move to Melbourne to take on a more senior role in 2016.
Prior to joining Grandstand, Alister spent a decade as a sports journalist here in Tasmania.
He was part of the ABC News team at the 2010 Commonwealth Games in Delhi and the face of the network’s coverage of the Sydney to Hobart Yacht Race for several years. He also commentated football and hockey matches for ABC Television.
Away from the microphone, he is an A-grade golfer, showing our Vice President Darren Emmerton a thing or two many years ago and a skilled fly-fisherman!!!
Alister is still calling the footy and will also be catching a plane to Birmingham when he departs the PFC to call the Ashes series broadcast in England commencing in August 1 at Edgbaston.
Tickets are $60 per person or tables of ten, $500.
