NWFL COVID-19 – Season Delay
Following the recommendation of the AFL, the North West Football League wishes to advise its clubs and community it has postponed the 2020 season until late May.
The NWFL Executive considered all options in response to the COVID-19 outbreak and made the decision with the health and safety of all participants the fundamental priority.
The executive will meet with the NWFL clubs next Tuesday evening to discuss where to from here.
The AFL recommendation covered training and practice matches.
There are many questions that have and will be raised by clubs and the League will endeavour to answer these on Tuesday evening or where this is not possible, take on notice and provide answers after further investigation and consultation with the AFL, Insurers and medical experts.
The representative games scheduled against the SFL have been cancelled and will not be played later in the season.
The NWFL appreciate that this may not be a popular decision in some circles, but we can assure you that everything pertaining to season 2020 is open to change and an earlier start date will be considered if circumstances allow.
Unfortunate and sad circumstances with the delay to the NWFL season due to the COVID-19 outbreak surrounding Australian citizens currently.
The Penguin Football Club supports the decision handed out by the AFL and the NWFL and with a bit of luck we might be running out to play the game we love in early June in a possible re-jigged roster.
Take care, be safe and look after each other in times that we have never had to encounter before.
